Parent company CEO alludes to joint O2, Apple press conference in the "coming weeks".
O2 has added fuel to the fire after it announced that it and Apple would be making a joint statement in the "coming weeks", adding to already rampant speculation that Steve Jobs would be using the WWDC event on June 9th to take the wraps a new 3G version of its iPhone.
The device, which is currently sold out across the O2 network, and Apple itself, saw a £100 price cut on the base model in the UK last month, prompting analysts to suggest a 3G model of the phone was imminent.
Apple has declined to comment on the announcement by 02. The announcement of the joint press conference emerged after the chief executive of Telefonica 02 Europe revealed that his firm would be making a joint statement with the iPhone firm in the coming weeks, but declined to say whether it was related to a 3G version of the iPhone or not.
