Wapple gets into the barcode game

Wapple customers can now generate print media barcodes that link to their mobile internet sites.
It’s launched the app as part of its Wapple Canvas Zest toolkit, to create a unique data matrix code and QR code that can be printed on advertisements, magazine articles, or even posters to provide an immediate call to action. When the code is scanned by a camera phone it links straight through to a WAP site, from which consumers can get more info, enter a competition, buy concert tickets and so on. Unlike SMS triggers it is a free service.
For any company using Canvas, these codes are automatically generated and can then be printed wherever required.
Anne Thomas, COO and co-founder of Wapple, said: "For the consumer, waiting for the bus, a train journey or simply reading a paper or magazine becomes more interesting with the ability to purchase products, respond to articles or enter competitions without having to be back in front of a PC.
"And for the brand it not only provides an immediate call to action but a new and effective way to measure the success of print campaigns. Of course it doesn't stop at print media, these codes can be promoted just about anywhere for a vast number of purposes."
