US operator says broadcast mobile TV service will go live with two handsets.
AT&T Mobile TV, which is based on Qualcomm's MediaFLO technology, will launch with ten channels for a $15 monthly subscription.
The service will offer live channels including PIX from Sony Pictures and CNN Mobile Live (both exclusive), CBS Mobile, Comedy Central, ESPN Mobile TV, FOX Mobile, MTV, NBC 2Go, NBC News 2Go, and Nickelodeon.
AT&T Mobile TV will initially be supported by two handsets in the form of LG's Vu and the Samsung Access and will be available in 58 markets across the US.
The FT quotes Mark Collins, vice-president of consumer data for AT&T’s wireless unit, as saying: “Our research revealed that news and movies were the two most popular programme categories consumers wanted to watch on their mobile phones."
Qualcomm's FLO technology is also used by AT&T competior Verizon Wireless.
