Orange UK has claimed a 35 per cent increase in mobile internet page impressions in the three months to January 31st.
The stat is one of a bunch of highlights from its third Digital Media Index, all of which point to the growing interest in mobile media.
The index reveals usage patterns across the full range of Orange’s entertainment and communications services, including home broadband, text and picture messaging, and the mobile internet. Key findings include:
· Mobile internet becomes part of day-to-day life - with a 35 per cent increase in page impressions
· Mobile TV shows an 87 per cent increase in total hours viewed
· Video downloads doubled in the last year
· Music consumption grew with a record 289,000 tracks downloaded in December alone
· Over 1.3 billion SMS messages sent a month - an increase of 21 per cent
Meanwhile Orange's 15.6 million customers downloaded 100,000 images a month, an increase of only three per cent. Ringtone downloads fell from 117,000 to 100,000.
These figures are in comparison to the second Orange Digital Media Index released in November 2007. Matthew Kirk, Director of Portals for Orange, said: “The mobile phone has truly taken its place as a multimedia content device. The popularity of mobile TV, music and gaming has surged as customers use the mobile internet alongside home broadband to stay connected wherever they are.
