Revenue from handset sales fell 39 per cent in 1Q08, with units down 39.6 per cent.
Moto's woes continued in 1Q08, with sales in its mobile division plunging 39 per cent to $3.3 billion and device shipments down 39.6 per cent to 27.4 million units.
The company's share of global mobile phone sales during the quarter slipped from 21.5 per cent to 9.5 per cent as a result.
This was despite the introduction of several new handsets including the MOTO Q smartphones, ROKR U9 and the 3G Z9.
Speaking to analysts, Moto's CEO Greg Brown attributed the poor performance to inadequacies in the company's handset portfolio.
In March Brown confirmed that Moto would be splitting its handsets and infratstructure units into separate publicly-traded companies.
