LG breaks handset record

LG sold a record 24.4 million handsets in 1Q 2008, compared to 23.7 million in the previous quarter.
The world's fifth largest handset maker also broke its record for phone shipments, with a 24.4 million total, thanks to strong sales of Viewty, Prada, Shine and other flagship models. Shipment to emerging markets including Asia, China and Middle East region increased 36 per cent on quarter and W-CDMA sales in US, Korea increased 18 per cent.
Operating profit margin improved to 13.9 per cent in the handset division.
LG remains bullish about its phone division. It will introduce a third model in its ‘Black Label’ series (after Chocolate and Shine) in the next few days.
