Worms 2008: A Space Oddity will be released globally by THQ Wireless in June.

THQW is comparing the graphical leaps made in this year’s instalment of Worms as akin to the jump between PSone and PS2.

While being an entirely new game, Worms 2008 retains the gameplay and sense of humour that has epitomised the brand for more than a decade.

However, it will showcase a raft of new features, including four mini-games, enhanced single-player campaign mode, an all-new landscape view mode and new weapons to use.

Graphical improvements include new character animations, advanced landscape generation and effects like smoke trails. It also boasts parallax particles that have direct impact on gameplay by reacting to the direction and strength of the wind.

Also debuting in Worms 2008 is a new AI system that allows enemy Worms to determine the greatest threats, navigate the landscape and unleash a variety of weapons. Players will also be able to see the main game in landscape mode, as well as classic portrait mode.

Earlier this year THQW also confirmed the game would be made available for Nokia's new-look N-gage platform.
