UK supermarket MVNO prepares WAP portal for mobile ads following successful trial.

Tesco Mobile has today sent out its first media packs as it attempts to attract big name advertisers to its mobile portal, which attracted 300,000 unique visitors in December.

The news comes following a trial that saw banner advertising on the Infomedia-managed Tesco Mobile portal from the likes of Bee Movie, Nivea, ITV and Teletext.

The ads, sold and served by 4th Screen Media, attracted a click through rate of 3-7 per cent.

To complement the trial, InfoMedia conducted a WAP-based survey that revealed the average age of Tesco Mobile's portal users to be 36 years and 60 per cent female.

What's more, 60 per cent visit the portal at least once a month, while 69 per cent say they would click on a relevant ad.

Ashley Schofield, head of customer management at Tesco Mobile, said: “Our customers are showing a real appetite for more products and services through the mobile internet. Delivering more great experiences and value through our portal is a priority for this year.”
