EMI appoints Google man as new digital boss

EMI has hired Google’s Douglas Merrill to be president of its digital unit.
The former chief information officer at Google will replace Barney Wragg, who was one of the big hitters of the digital music scene before he departed EMI in January.
The move marks a critical stage in EMI’s re-structuring by private equity boss Guy Hands, and the fact that he has gone to Silicon Valley to get a new digital head indicates the importance attached to new media.
