MWC: Nokia adds Google search
Stuart O'Brien in Barcelona Feb 12 2008, 4:29pm
Microsoft and Yahoo joined by rival search provider on Finnish giant's handsets.
Nokia is to put Google's mobile search on its handsets, complementing deals it already has in place with Microsft and Yahoo.
The parties haven't confirmed which models will come with Google embedded beyond the fact that it will be a small selection initially before a wider roll out to mass market devices in the second half of this year.
The Google services will be accessed via Nokia's own 'search' icons on the phone, along with services from other providers.
Ilkka Raiskinen, Nokia's vice-president of software and services, said: "Providing choices for our consumers is an important driver in Nokia's Internet service strategy."
Nokia and Google are set to go head-to-head in the near future with their respective Series 60 and Android mobile operating systems.
