Gracenote and Ikivo are working together to ‘revolutionise’ mobile music discovery.
Their new technology partnership combines Gracenote's Mobile Music Solution Suite with Ikivo's SVG-based Enrich application framework. The aim is to make feature-rich music apps handset vendors and operators that are fast to make and deploy.
Gracenote's toolkit delivers search and discovery, music recognition, playlisting, e-commerce and dual download capability. It includes Mobile MusicID, which enables handsets to identify songs within close proximity, such as in a club or restaurant. Gracenote's Global Media Database currently has digital waveform fingerprints for over seven million CDs and processes more than two billion searches per month.
A key feature of the Ikivo Enrich solution is its user interface for handling playlists and managing music playback. It allows for the downloading of music-related content such as album art, song lyrics and artists' profiles. It also supports chat, interactive ads and competitions.
The solution is based on mobile SVG, which delivers smooth scrolling graphics. It’s like Flash, but open source. Ikivo's solutions are currently deployed on over 250 million handsets worldwide.
