Growth attributed to the increasing penetration of 3G devices and business services.

Vodafone's global data revenue revenues reached £558 million in the three months ending December 31, up 41.5 percent from the same period in 2006.

The figure (which excludes messaging) accounted for 6.6 per cent of Vodafone's total service revenue in the quarter.

Looking at Europe only, data revenue increased 35.5 per cent to reach £472 million.

Data and messaging combined accounted for 21.2 per cent of Vodafone's European revenues, rising to 27.1 per cent in the UK. Spain had the lowest percentage of data/messaging as a proportion of revenue at 16.5 per cent.

Vodafone now has 22.1 million 3G devices active in Europe, equivalent to 20 per cent of the regional customer base.

The installed base of 'handheld business devices' increased by 128 per cent since December 2006 to 2.4 million, with Vodafone Mobile Connect cards up 69 per cent to 1.9 million.

Vodafone had 252.3 million customers globally at the end of December, up 10.8 million from December 2006.
