General Wireless has unveiled a new B2B app, MobiDrop, that simplifies the distribution of content to mobile.
It uses a drag-and drop function on a PC to move the selected file to a MobiDrop window. Selected recipients then get an SMS with a link to the media content they can download. Files can be sent to all phones across all operators with no limitations in file formats or sizes.
Anders Hardebring, CEO at General Wireless, said: "As MobiDrop brings such clear benefits to the end-user, we believe it will prove to be a very valuable application for mobile operators.
It will increase their revenues from messaging and mobile data and have a positive effect on customer retention.”
MobiDrop is now being offered to operators and service providers, and is expected to be launched to end-users during Q2, 2008.

“Not Free???”

I had thought about this idea several months ago, and created a custom solution using a combination of dropbox for windows which uploads via ftp, and then created a mobile wap page which directory listed the uploads. Its a very simple solution that requires a bookmark to (re)access the pages, and not an expensive hosted solution with WAP Push delivery.
This idea is just short of being a useful product though in my opinion, enabling the ability to upload non binary files such as URLs, text and contacts.
