Motorola unveils DVB-H 'media player' and broadcast mobile TV platform.
Similar to Nokia's DVB-H broadcast mobile TV solutions, Moto's offering includes transmission network equipment and the devices themselves, though seemingly not phones at the outset.
Instead, it is using the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to unveil the catchily-named Mobile TV DH01 'personal media player'.
Moto says the non-cellular device will be smaller than a paperback novel, with a 4.3 inch Wide Quarter Video Graphics Array Screen that supports up to 16 million colors.
It also includes a five-minute memory buffer to pause live TV.
Navin Mehta, VP of mobile TV and applications services for
Motorola, said: "Mobile TV is expected to grow significantly in 2008 and beyond and Motorola is in a unique position to mobilise the TV experience to deliver broadcast and personalised content wherever and whenever consumers want."
