DoCoMo and Google cosy up

NTT DoCoMo will integrate Google search and e-mail on its i-mode handsets.
From Q2, DoCoMo subscribers will be able to access Google's search tool, Gmail service, Google Calendar scheduler and Picasa photo-sharer, said Reuters and Nikkei. The move is seen as an attempt to claw back some momentum for DoCoMo, which has recently been outshone by rivals KDDI and Softbank. Same goes for Google, which is in second place in the Japanese Web search market behind Yahoo.
DoCoMo moved closer to Google in November when it pledged to join the latter’s Open Handset Alliance, a consortium of 34 companies that will work with Google and its Android mobile platform.
Google already has a partnership in place with KDDI.
