LG says it will sell more than 700,000 units of the Prada phone by the end of the year.

The successful roll-out would appear to reward LG’s faith in the touchscreen phone UI, especially given that its second foray into this market – the Viewty – sold 310,000 in just two months.

The Prada phone debuted in Europe (Italy, UK, France and Germany) in March 2007 and in key Asian countries in May. It was subsequently launched in other European, Asian and Latin America countries.

The handset will soon be distributed in China.

It was not the first touchscreen by any means, but its UI did mark a significant change from previous attempts, which mostly served the PDA market. It also pre-dated the iPhone by a few months.
