Operator-sponsored forum opens up compliance requirements for the masses.
The Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP) has opened up its product profile compatibility programme to the entire mobile industry.
In theory this means that application developers and any vendor of devices or service platforms can test their compliance with various minimum performance requirements set by operators.
The compatibility programme had previously only been available to OMTP members and has the support of organisations like Symbian.
Tim Raby, managing director of OMTP, said: "We are delighted with the success of the initial product profile process and are enthused that we’re now able to offer this to the entire industry.
The organisations utilising the service can highlight their products and applications to the OMTP operator members, which in turn enables the operator industry to select applications that suitably fit their devices and networks. Compliant applications drive the market forward and enforce the message of the OMTP to enhance the consumer experience."
