Mobile app distributor GetJar has served 100 million downloads in two years.
It claims the GetJar site has seen more than three times the demand for apps than for games in 2007, with social and communication products, and GPS/ location-based applications among the fastest growing sectors.
UK users download a greater proportion of games than any other country in GetJar’s top 20, with just over 25 per cent of its downloads in the form of games. In the UK and USA, messaging applications are also popular, together with browsers and mobile utilities. Getjar also reports rapid growth in the number of mobile developers joining its community.
One of them, Mei Lin Ng, VP at mobile community site mig33, said, “Getjar has been important to our success in the mobile application space. They make it easy to deploy new applications from developers like ourselves, and even easier for mobile consumers out there to download the applications. Getjar is a great platform for anyone developing in the mobile space.”
GetJar has also confirmed that it closed a Series A investment from Silicon Valley and London-based Accel Partners.
