Symbian passes 20m in Q3

Symbian says 20.4 million smartphones shipped with its OS in 3Q 2007.
That figure is up 56 per cent from 3Q 2006 (13 million) and helped Symbian post revenues of £52.4 million, up 30 per cent from the same period a year earlier.
Cumulative shipments of Symbian-based smartphones now stand at 165 million units.
Fifteen new models shipped in Q3, bringing the total number in the market to 134. There have been 202 models shipped during Symbian's lifetime.
The new devices launched include the FOMA Raku-Raku PHONE IV, FOMA SO704i, FOMA F704i, FOMA SH704i, FOMA D701i, LG KS 10, Sony Ericsson P1i and Sony Ericsson P1c.
Symbian says there are now 8,314 third party applications commercially available for devices using its OS, an increase of 36 per cent from 3Q 2006.
Symbian CEO Nigel Clifford said: "I am confident that Symbian will continue to lead the growing smartphone market, to outperform the competition and to erode other consumer electronic device markets. We look forward to working closely with our customers and experiencing success over the coming quarters."
