Spanish D2C giant Zed grossed $100 million in revenue in a single month.
The company passed the milestone in September, and Zed believes it is the only pure mobile content company to have done so.
The $100 million figure would appear to validate Zed’s investment in services that integrate mobile and web communities. It spent $50 million developing a web 2.0 strategy, which it revealed in February this year. It’s also expanding geographically, the purchase of Monstermob helping Zed move into 37 countries worldwide including the US, Russia and China.
Javier Perez Dolset, CEO of Zed, told ME: “I’m very proud. It must be the first time a pure mobile content company has earned $100 million in a month.
We now have 35 million paying subscribers around the world…the traditional products are still significant, but the new wave of products – the web 2.0 element – and the new business models around them are growing fast.”
Zed’s community services are built around its statiOn app, which gives subscribers access to email, IM, blogging, music, images, video and video conferencing from a PC or mobile. Meanwhile it still offers personalisation products – 85 per cent of which are based on Zed’s own IP.
