Germany readies DVB-H

German DVB-H network gets the go-ahead for 2008.
Germany's telecoms regulator has awarded a nationwide DVB-H broadcast mobile TV frequency license to T-Systems, the networks division of T-Mobile owner Deutsche Telekom.
Work on the DVB-H network is expected to start in early 2008, with all of Germany's state capitals receiving coverage by the end of the year, according to Reuters. It is expected that 90 per cent coverage will be achieved by 2015.
However, the allocation of the DVB-H spectrum has come too late to ensure coverage of next year's Euro 2008 football tournament and the Beijing Olypmics as had originally been hoped.
Germany already has broadcast mobile TV services up and running in form of DMB-based Watcha from Debitel.
Full DVB-H services are currently live in Finland, Italy, Vietnam, the Philippines, Albania and Nigeria.
