Sony BMG has signed a deal with iO global to deliver digital music across Africa.
The arrangement covers mobile, along with PC and TV, and will deliver Sony BMG’s entire 300,000 plus library, including acts like Sean Kingston (pictured), to operators in South and West Africa. The first roll out will be South Africa.
iO global’s Mobile Entertainment Platform automates the entire process for the operator, including packaging, pricing, delivery and real-time billing. Formats include full track, album, video or ringtone. The customer can then consume the tracks from Sony BMG’s extensive library across the three screens of mobile, PC or TV.
Keith Lister, CEO of Sony BMG Africa, said: “We are pleased to sign the distribution agreement with iO global. We believe the extensive music library, which includes R Kelly, Beyonce and Sean Kingston as well as African superstars Malaika, Freshlyground and Joyous Celebration, will start a new wave of music downloads throughout South Africa.”

Is there a contact in Zimbabwe for local artists there? There seems to be an adage that South Africa represents the whole of Africa
