There’s $20,000 up for grabs in a new mobile games development competition, IGF Mobile.
The event will complement CMP Game Group’s Independent Games Festival, which takes place during the 2008 Game Developers Conference. The date is February 18th to February 22nd and the venue is San Francisco's Moscone Convention Center.
IGF Mobile’s focus will be mobile phones and other handheld devices including PSP and Nintendo DS. It is now accepting submissions from all independent developers working on mobile platforms at http://www.igfmobile.com. The closing date is October 26th..
Winners will scoop $20,000 in prizes at the IGF Mobile ceremony on February 19th, 2008. The competition is being sponsored by hardware acceleration specialist NVIDIA, specifically the 'Innovation in Augmented Design' category, which honours games that were developed using GPS, camera, motion sensing, and WiFi elements, along with other unique and differentiating features.
The winner of that gets $2,000 prize, as do those winning the Innovation in Mobile Game Design, Audio Achievement, Technical Achievement, and Achievement in Art categories. Finally, the title named Best Game of IGF Mobile will receive a $10,000 Grand Prize.
IGF Mobile will also feature all finalist games in playable form within a special pavilion on the Game Developers Conference 2008 show floor, alongside the main
