SanDisk has started shipping 8GB Memory Stick Micro memory cards to manufacturers and operators.
The M2 cards, mostly used in Sony Ericsson phones, have been delivered for testing and evaluation purposes. 8GB is the largest capacity M2 card to date, with space for more than 2,000 songs, 5,000 high-resolution pictures or five 5 hours of video.
Jeff Kost, senior vice president and general manager of the mobile consumer solutions division at SanDisk, said: "With the addition of an 8GB SanDisk M2 card, consumers will instantly have the same amount of storage as the largest capacity iPhone."
Retail release of the cards and availability to phone manufacturers and operators is planned for Q4 2007. Pricing has not yet been determined.
