Voice-enabled mobile search could trump text-based, says Usable Products Co.

Participants in the market research firm’s ‘Mobile Search User Experience Benchmark’ study initially predicted voice search would be difficult to use, but gave it higher ratings than text search after an hour of use.

Researchers also found 79 per cent of participants liked ad-supported search, and that 37 per cent felt banner ads enhanced it.

Overall, participants averaged an 88 per cent success rate in submitting queries, although only 53 per cent found relevant results. It took an average143 seconds to submit queries and find answers.

For the study, 80 participants evaluated four search solutions from InfoSpace, JumpTap, Nuance Voice Control, and Yahoo Go.
