DChoc makes double swoop

Digital Chocolate has bought two mobile games studios in Spain and India.

The US-based mobile games publisher has also announced major growth in its Helsinki offices, which spearheaded the recent launch of the DChoc Café Series.

Specifically, DChoc has acquired Small Device Mobile Technologies in Bangalore and Barcelona-based Microjocs Mobile, both for undisclosed sums.

Small Device specialises in applications porting and its knowhow will be folded into DChoc's proprietary Catapult porting technology, the capacity of which is set to triple. The new unit will be headed by Dikshant Dave, DChoc's managing director of APAC operations.

Microjocs has a long track-record of cross-platform game development. MD Gerard Fernandez continues to lead the studio after the acquisition.

Meanwhile, the number of employees at DChoc's Helsinki studio has grown 328 percent since its inception in 2004.

DChoc CEO Trip Hawkins said: "Digital Chocolate now ranks as one of the largest independent, pureplay mobile game publishers with more than 300 employees worldwide. We will continue to build on our development operation and effectively leverage our technology investments to deliver high-quality, original games for our customers on a global scale."
