Mobile shipments up 11 per cent
Tim Green Aug 3 2007, 12:15pm
Global mobile shipments hit 258 million units in Q2 2007, said Strategy Analytics.
This represents a 11 per cent year-over-year growth rate – still up, of course, but less than the 20 per cent growth rates typical of recent years.
Samsung was the big winner, overtaking Motorola for the first time to become the world's second largest handset vendor. The top dog, Nokia, hit a record 39 per cent share, as it remained dominant in emerging markets.
Sony Ericsson’s 10 per cent share was its best ever performance since the merger of 2001.
Interestingly Apple shipped 0.3 million iPhone units worldwide in 2Q, a 0.1 per cent share.
