ROK Entertainment has launched an on-demand mobile music service in the RSA.
The UK-based company has teamed with local dance label Soul Candi to deliver a combined streaming audio and full-track download service to 2.5G and 3G Vodacom, MTN and CellC subscribers.
Soul Candi will initially offer five hours of streamed music every week as part of the ROK Radio service, which will be charged at R10.00 per week (£1.00/$2.00). The cost to purchase individual tracks has yet to be announced.
The launch is ROK's first significant move in the music space, having spent the last 12 months building out its mobile TV platform.
Laurence Alexander, CEO of ROK Entertainment Group, said: "We're seeing the mobile consumer being prepared to pay a premium to receive instantly engaging and relevant entertainment, on-demand and we're delighted to be working with Soul Candi on deploying this service right across South Africa."
