EU loves DVB-H and nothing else

The EU ended all speculation and backed DVB-H as its ‘official’ mobile TV format.
It came as little surprise. The commission has been hinting for months that there should be one endorsed platform, and that Nokia-backed DVB-H would be it. It’s now confirmed this with a declaration that the 27 national governments should support DVB-H.
It said choosing one standard would “promote consensus” and stop market fragmentation. “Europe is today at a crossroads,” said EU telecoms commissioner Viviane Reding.
“We can either take the lead globally—as we did for mobile telephony based on the GSM standard developed by the European industry—or allow other regions to take the lion’s share of the promising mobile TV market. Wait-and-see is not an option.”
