Sony Ericsson increased like-for-like sales by 37 per cent in 2Q 2007.
The value of these sales rose to 3.1 billion euros from 2.3 billion euros in the same quarter of last year. Units shipped were 24.9 million, against 15.7 million in 1Q 2007.
But it wasn’t all wonderful news. Net income for the second quarter was 220 million euros, and although that was up 54 per cent it missed analysts’ forecasts. Average sales also price declined by 14 per cent to 125 euros from 145 euros in the prior year quarter, due to the increase in low and mid-tier priced phones in the portfolio.
During the second quarter, Sony Ericsson grew market share around 3 percentage points to over 9 per cent. For 2007, the company expects to sell more that 1.1 billion units of handsets globally. The content-based Walkman and Cyber-shot phones look set to remain central to SE’s appeal. The company will launch 5 mega-pixel flagship Cyber-shot device soon and a Walkman phone with 8GB of on-board storage.
