Red Circle eyes US 'battle'

D2C content provider ready for 'head-to-head battle' with Jamster in US.
The company has launched a US content portal, Club28282, as it bids for a slice of a market eMarketer reckons will be worth $15 billion by 2010.
The service, which also has a dedicated WAP storefront, will offer the usual mix of ringtones, wallpapers and videos. A Club28282 subscription costs $9.99 per month for up to five downloads - equivalent to Jamster pricing models in the US.
Red Circle says it intends to promote the service through a several print and online partners.
The UK is historically Ireland-based Red Circle's strongest market, with its existing D2C brands including TXT UK, Zing Club and Mobile Diva.
It has expanded aggressively in Australia in recent months with its Oztonez.com.au portal.
Cathal Fay, CEO of Red Circle Direct, said: "This is the right time for us to make our entry to the US. We have carefully built up a position of strength in our home market of Europe and we have a very good understanding of the needs of consumers for mobile entertainment services. We plan to attain a significant presence in the US over the next twelve month having clearly defined our customer base."
