Picsel has launched rich media mobile services with Associated Press and FrictionTV.
The Scottish company announced the two deals during its ‘Big Experience’ event in London, which marked the start of a new phase in the its evolution.
Picsel has grown fast as a provider of browser and document-reader software that’s embedded in phones. It announced last month that its software is now in more than 100 million handsets.
However, the company is now re-positioning itself as a provider of intuitive rich media mobile services to brands. Hence the deals with AP and FrictionTV. The AP mobile service will feature premium news, sport and entertainment material and will be launched on Java-enabled handsets in Europe in Q3 2007.
Imran Khand, CEO of Picsel, said: “We’re is delighted to be working with such a highly reputable global media stalwart to provide a superior experience in viewing news content on your mobile…and to demonstrate, in a very real way, the next stage of mobile news publishing.”
The deal with FrictionTV, a YouTube-style site where users post ‘opinion’ videos, will take the service mobile to its 100,000 monthly visitors.
