ROK Entertainment Group has acquired Blubox Software.
This news signals ROK's intent to enter the mobile imaging market - the company says Blubox's compression expertise will enable it to offer faster, better and cheaper technologies that will have a 'dramatic' impact on MMS and video-sharing.
Blubox technology is already available as a free download.
ROK chairman Jonathan Kendrick said: "Blubox have created the most powerful, user-friendly and original compression technologies for the management of digital imagery and data files.
We know there is a massive potential, worldwide, for this technology in the mobile phone space in addition to, and in conjunction with, the online service."
ROK is best known for its mobile TV technologies. In May 2007 the company was bought by US-based CyberFund.
