BBC Worldwide has appointed MobiTV vet Peter Mercier as its new head of mobile.
The commercial arm of the BBC is currently pushing brands like Little Britain, Doctor Who and Top Gear into mobile, with deals in place with the likes of 3 and Orange in the UK and other partners around the world.
Mercier - previously director of business development at MobiTV Europe - will now lead that strategy, reporting to Simon Danker, BBC Worldwide's director of Digital Media.
Danker said: "Mobile is clearly a huge opportunity for a major rights owner and international broadcaster like ourselves. Both the domestic and international markets are hungry for quality content and we can satisfy that hunger with some of the world’s best known and loved content brands."
BBC Worldwide is a wholly owned subsidiary of the BBC. In 2005/06 the unit generated profits of £89 million on revenues of £784 million
