Gracenote has presented its Mobile Music 2.0 platform to power music discovery based on its database of more than 60 million tracks
The platform provides users with an integrated solution where the PC, online music store, and handset are used for search, discovery, management, and playback. The first compatible handsets will be the new Sony Ericsson W910 Walkman phone and K850 Cyber-shot phone.
Users of handsets with the Mobile Music Platform can identify CDs via a PC and easily transfer it with associated album art to their phone. Alternatively they can type in an artist name, track, album, or even a line from the lyrics of a song to their handset, are then be connected to an online store such as Sony Ericsson's PlayNow or an operator portal.
Along with the ability to search, users can identify songs on the built-in FM tuner, or by recording a song heard in ‘real life’. Finally, the platform provides recommendations for music the user has identified using data points based on artist type, era, origin and genre, through Gracenote's Discover product.
