Andy Riedel, the exec behind gaming for prizes company Atlas Games, has beta launched a new mobile and web ‘social contest’ community Tapatap.
The service combines pop culture and game show logic, and invites members to play photo contests for fun and daily prizes. They can also upload their own pics and create their own contents via mobile, web browser or embedded flash widgets. For the public launch, partners will include Hudson Entertainment’s ‘I Wanna Win a Wii’, Consolidated Skateboards’ ‘Sickest Skate Photo’ and BenchWarmer’s ‘Bikini Fashion Model’.
Tapatap was co-founded by Riedel with fellow entrepreneurs Isaac Babbs and Ken Scott with $2.5 million in Series A funding from Gabriel Venture Partners.
Babbs said: “Our mission is to create social entertainment networks and online communities where you and the community are the fun. You create it, share it, and play it wherever you are across both mobile devices and the web.”
Tapatap also believes its concept has value for marketers. With contests based on movies, music, TV, news, sports and lifestyle topics, the site could be a promotional vehicle to help identify market trends.
