Usage climbs three fold in last 12 months
A report from mobile tech firm Bango has claimed that mobile web use in the US has increased by 300 per cent in the last 12 months, positioning the territory as the world’s second biggest mobile web users – behind only the UK.
As well as the boom in the US market, the report also claims that nine per cent of all mobile web access now comes from India – a rise of five per cent compared to last year. Bango predicts that India will overtake European usage levels in the next few years.
The most popular handsets for web browsing are the Sanyo Katana SCP 6600 – only available in the US – as well as the Motorola RAZR V3, Sony Ericsson K750i and Samsung A900.
“We see that wherever flat-rate mobile data charges are pervasive in a country then there’s much more web browsing,” Anil Malhotra, SVP of Marketing at Bango, stated. “This is certainly true of the US and South Africa and the imminent introduction of flat-rate data charges in the UK will push up mobile web usage in the UK even further.”
