Jamba and Gameloft struck a blow for the West when they scooped two of the six prizes at the GMCA Awards in Korea.
The German company won the Mobile Music award for the off-portal full track download service Jamba Music, while Gameloft bagged the Mobile Game gong for 2006 Real Football 3D.
Elsewhere, it was a clean sweep for the East as Japan’s Jig won the TV and Video award for Jig Movie, Korea’s Healthpia scooped the Mobile Information award for Mobile Diabetes Management, Hong Kong’s Green Tomato won the Community and Communication prize for GOOVII, and Korea’s CJ Shopping went home with the Mobile Commerce award for CJMmall.
The GMCA Awards were organised by Kocca, the agency that represents Korean economic and cultural interests overseas, and came at the climax of the Seoul Digital Forum. The convention is a major event in the Korean new media calendar; this year it featured speakers including the Prime Minister of South Korea and the CEO of Google.
The GMCA awards attracted 147 entries from 13 countries. Mobile Entertainment’s Tim Green was among the judges. His report on the convention will appear in July’s issue of ME magazine.
