THQ Wireless will release 2D and 3D versions of the next installment in its Worms franchise.
The company has confirmed a worldwide agreement with developer Team17 Software to publish Worms 2007 in May, having already experienced success with the original Worms, Worms Golf and Worms World Party.
The new title will showcase a raft of new gameplay features and will also be the first version of the game to utilise 3D backgrounds for high-end devices.
Adam Comiskey, VP of international at THQ Wireless, said: "The addictive style of Worms gameplay has proven to be ideal for the mobile environment. This new version of the classic game will please existing fans of the series, as well as newcomers to the world of Worms."
Debbie Bestwick, commercial director at Team 17, said: "With Worms 2007, we have the opportunity to strengthen an already powerful franchise and provide a definitive gaming experience on mobile handsets within the Worms universe. It will mix the simple controls and ‘aim-fire-explode’ gameplay that has resonated so well with mobile game players in the past with the very best graphics currently possible on the mobile platform."
