Microsoft surfs, lands fish

Microsoft has unveiled Deepfish, a mobile internet browser that loads full web pages at rapid speed

Instead of loading simplistic WAP pages, Deepfish displays the full web page as a thumbnail. It then lets the user zoom in and out transferring only the portions their interested in to save bandwidth and improve page load times. The technology is currently in ‘preview release’ and a long way from commercial release.

It’s not a surprising tactical move by Microsoft, which dominates the web browsing space (despite the gains made by Firefox, Safari and others). In mobile it’s a long way behind Opera, Openwave and others.

The Deepfish announcement concluded a busy week for Microsoft, which also unveiled its new user interface and content storefront ZenZui.
