Orange UK has won the battle to become the official operator partner of social network Bebo.
After the tie-up between Vodafone and MySpace, which was announced in February, there was much speculation about the mobile plans of Bebo, which rivals MySpace for popularity in the UK.
Orange will get a few month’s exclusivity with 31 million member Bebo, although precise details about tariffs and the form the service will take have yet to be revealed. It should roll out in the UK this summer and in other Orange territories later in the year.
In a related announcement Ireland’s NewBay Software confirmed its user-gen product UGC Gateway would support interaction with Bebo, enabling members to upload images and text, browse profiles and receive text alerts to the service from their mobiles.
