Packet pockets SDC

PacketVideo has bought the Swiss mobile DRM specialist SDC AG for an undisclosed sum.

SDC has become a major player in the fraught DRM space by offering a relatively stable proprietary system, which supports full track download and subscription music services on over 120 handsets.

Its solution is supported by the four major labels and has been adopted by 18 operators including T-Mobile, O2, SFR, Amena, Telus, Telstra, 3 and Rogers Wireless.

It’s a good fit for PacketVideo, which provides multimedia client software for music and video services such as Verizon Wireless’s VCAST, DoCoMo’s 3G FOMA and Orange’s Orange World.

Michael Bornhäusser, co-founder and chief executive officer of SDC, said: “The SDC Java music client is shipping as of today in Europe, China, North America, Australia and India. This transaction gives mobile operators a one-stop-shop for mobile music client applications that is unequalled in the world.”
