Mobile music giant WiderThan has launched services in Canada for the first time.
The RealNetworks-owned provider has rolled out a music-on-demand service for Rogers Wireless called the Rogers MusicStore. It makes Rogers the first Canadian operator to offer a pay-per-download and subscription service option for both mobile and PC.
Rogers is also offering a new indie music portal called Redpipe, which enables customers and artists to upload and share music and videos instantly via PC or mobile. Acquired content can be played on all Microsoft “Plays For Sure” mobile devices.
“We’re delighted to work with Canada’s largest wireless carrier,” said Vern Poyner, CEO of WiderThan Americas. “Our services and solutions are specifically designed and custom tailored to help communications service providers like Rogers Wireless drive and grow the popular mobile music market.”
