MediaFLO could have 100 million available subscribers by the end of 2007 after Cingular committed to the mobile TV technology.
AT&T Cingular, with 61 million subscribers, will launch a broadcast TV service in the second half of 2007. It will follow Verizon, with 59 million subs, which launches a MediaFLO powered service in the next few weeks. The announcement confirms MediaFLO’s dominance of the US mobile broadcast TV market. Elsewhere it is working with content providers, such as SkyTV, to move its proposition forward.
Paul E. Jacobs, CEO of Qualcomm, said: "Our relationship with AT&T will redefine expectations of mobile media for millions of wireless subscribers. We share with AT&T an exciting vision of a world in which consumers have access to a high-quality mobile media experience wherever they are, whenever they want it."
