Player X has secured a second round of venture capital funding worth $9.85 million to fuel its mobile TV, video and games publishing activity.
The funding round includes new investment from Nordic Venture Partners and Long Acre Partners, in addition to further commitment from original investors Arts Alliance.
Player X's first round of funding in October 2005 also included investment from sports rights company Bullion International.
Player X CEO Tony Pearce said: "This is great news for the company and takes us to the next stage of growth. In less than two years the company has become a leading publisher and distributor of games and a pioneer in the emerging mobile video and TV markets - and this investment is key to this area."
In December last year the company launched its mobile TV channel geekTV in partnership with UK operator 3. The last 12 months have also seen Player X publish the official Miami Vice game and secure rights to make Knight Rider and Magnum P.I. animated mobisodes.
Larry McDonald, a partner at Nordic Venture Partners, said: “We met with many mobile content companies but what excited us about Player X was not only its impressive games business, but its leadership in mobile video. We're confident the company will continue to make giant strides in both areas."
