Second outing for the €200k prize that rewards makers of apps for older people and those with disabilities.
The Smart Accessibility Awards are part of the Vodafone Foundation’s ‘Mobile for Good’ programme to drive positive social change through mobile. They are co-organised by AGE Platform Europe and the European Disability Forum (EDF).
This year there will be prizes in four areas:
* Social participation
* Independent living
* Mobility
* Wellbeing
Entrants will compete for a share of a €200k prize fund. The competition is open from 30th May 2012 to 15th October 2012.
Qualifying entries will be evaluated in November and the four overall winners will be chosen in a final event that will take place in December in Spain.
Andrew Dunnett, director of the Vodafone Foundation, said, ‘Smartphones are transforming how millions of people manage their daily lives, but some groups in society are at risk of missing out on the revolution.
"The Smart Accessibility Awards is one of many Vodafone Foundation programmes around the world which are tackling the diverse barriers to a fully accessible mobile internet.’
In 2011 over 60 apps were received and more than 100 people participated in the awards.
