Sony unveils Xperia S - its first own-brand phone for ten years

It's like 2001 all over again. Let's start a campaign to bring back Bosch!

The new Xperia S is Sony's first own-brand device after the dissolution of its JV with Sony Ericsson, and Sony's subsequent buyout of Ericsson's half for £918 million last year.

It comes with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, NFC, 12 megapixel camera with 16x digital zoom, 4.3 inch HD resolution screen and runs Android 2.3 OS.

Intriguingly, the Xperia S will be the first of the new Xperia NXT series, which allow consumers to share content with each other and to access content from the Sony Entertainment Network.

This includes the Music Unlimited with a global catalogue of 12 million songs, the Video Unlimited offering of movies and TV shows and the PlayStation Certified service, giving access to a games from the PlayStation Store.

Xperia S will be available from 1Q. It will be launched alongside three other Sony Android devices, the Xperia ion, Xperia NX and Xperia acro HD.
