RealNetworks CEO Bob Kimball resigns ahead of Unifi cloud launch

Personal reasons the cause, with RealNetworks looking for another boss now.

RealNetworks is gearing up for the launch of its Unifi cloud media service, but CEO Bob Kimball won't be in charge when it launches. He has resigned, in a move that has surprised the technology and mobile industries.

"After twelve amazing years at Real, it is time for me to find new challenges and opportunities," says Kimball in a statement, in which he says it's an appropriate time to leave, having overseen the company's restructure over the last year since taking over from original CEO Rob Glaser.

"Bob has decided to resign and spend some time with his family and some other pursuits. After twelve year here, we respect his need to do that," interim CEO Mike Lunsford tells GeekWire.

Glaser has already scotched any speculation that he may return to the CEO role, saying instead that RealNetworks will kick off a search for Kimball's successor.
