And only 17 per cent of merchants report mobile sales of over ten per cent.
The annual Q1 Merchant Survey by Direct Response Forum found that, for 63 per cent of US retailers, the mobile channel represents two per cent of less of all sales.
The study revealed that a majority of retailers do not currently accept mobile payments and do not have plans to do so.
It also found that 54 per cent of respondents were unable to determine much about their mobile customers because their internal systems are not optimised for the job.
Chantal Gaspie, executive chair at DRF, said: “There are a number that have launched a mobile site and are well versed in the payments process. For the smaller retailers, it is new and they do not have an understanding yet of what mobile is.”
The Direct Response Forum is not-for-profit educational organisation for merchants, acquirers, card companies and service providers.
