BlackBerry BBM Music service rumours heat up again

Report claims that RIM has one major label signed up, and two more on the verge of joining.

Is Research In Motion preparing to launch a BlackBerry music service built on top of its BBM messaging application? CNET thinks so, and is reporting that one major label has already signed up.

What's more two of the other three majors are described as being "close to signing", with the new service possibly due to be tested in the coming weeks.

Details of how it will work - for example whether it is download or streaming based - are thin on the ground. However, it is expected to have BBM as a core feature, which hints at some level of sharing with friends, albeit in a legally licensed manner.

This isn't the first time there have been rumours about a BBM Music service, though. In July, news site BlackBerry Sync reported a tip that RIM was working on a social music platform.
